    Hi there,
I migrated a site from dev to production using Updraftplus, which I’ve used with Generatepress-sites multiple times without problems. It often breaks widgets or theme settings, but that’s easy to fix. Did the same this time, I exported and imported the Generatepress customizer settings, checked all customizer settings, all widgets and menues, but that didn’t help. Also manually copied all theme files. Everything looks fine while in the customizer preview, but the live site has a broken menu. Instead of the mobile menu it is supposed to display (in all screen sizes), it’s showing a list of some pages which aren’t even part of any menu.
Any idea what causes this and how to fix?
    Thanks,
    Dominik

    Hi Dominik,

Do you have custom CSS for the menu? If so, were you able to copy and paste this over to the new site? Exporting customizer settings doesn’t export custom CSS added. You’ll need to do this manually.

The credentials provided aren’t working. Can you check if they are correct?

    Hi Fernando,
this isn’t a CSS issue – please look at the HTML generated, the Slideout-Menu (off canvas menu) is completely empty, while the primary menu, which in backend only contains the language switcher, in frontend contains multiple pages.
The strangest part is that in the customizer preview everything works fine – I’ve never seen a problem like that.
Please try again, new password below – should work for both sites.
    Thanks,
    Dominik

It seems like I just repaired it by editing and saving each menu – before I tried switching to a different theme and then back to Generatepress, which mixed up all widgets, maybe that did help too. Very strange, any idea what could cause that?

    Hi there,

chances are that the WordPress Permalink structure needed rebuilding after migration, which could have lead to your menu failing to load.
If that happens in the future:

    a) check the URLs are correct in Dashboard > Settings > General.
    b) go to Settings > Permalinks and Click Save Changes. WP will rebuild the permalinks.
    c) check Appearance > Menus to make sure the correct menu locations are selected.

I had checked all these things, they have been correct, but I didn’t think of saving everything again to force updates.
    Thanks!

Hopefully it all works correctly next time 🙂
