Hi, I’ve used generate press for many years but I thought it was easier to pare down to one column vs. two but the ‘blog’ option is only allowing me to have two columns. I’d like to just have one column with posts (with excerpts) down the page (with a sidebar). What am I missing? I feel like I’m either missing something or this is not set up as easy as it should be. Thank you.

Hi Cath,
If you wish to have only one column, kindly disable the “Display posts in column” option in Appearance > Customize > Layout > Blog as such: https://share.getcloudapp.com/NQuNll4z
To set the content type to Excerpt, kindly go to Appearance > Customize > Layout > Blog as well: https://share.getcloudapp.com/yAuK11AY
Lastly, to Display a sidebar in the Blog Archive page, go to Appearance > Customize > Layout > Sidebars: https://share.getcloudapp.com/Z4u7AAmm
Kindly make sure that the Blog Module is activated in Appearance > GeneratePress if the Blog options aren’t appearing.
Hope this clarifies. Kindly let us know how it goes. 🙂

Hi Fernando,
No, I don’t really understand this. I don’t want to go to further links. The response should be within your response without my having to go to links which didn’t help me. Can you respond with a succinct answer without sending me to outside links?
The first option you suggest: “If you wish to have only one column, kindly disable the “Display posts in column” option in Appearance > Customize > Layout > ” – I do not even see that option. It still only shows two columns and ‘display posts in column’ is not an option.
I dealt with Tom early on when he was responding to everything and he was always very clear.
Thanks – can you just send me the direct way to do it without sending me to outside links?
Cath

Sorry about the links. They were just screenshots showing which specific settings I was referring to.
Let’s try to tackle the first issue first.
In Appearance > Customize > Layout > Blog, do you see a check box below the section title “Columns”(this title has a white background) saying “Display posts in columns”? If yes, kindly uncheck it. That should set your Blog posts to display in one column.
Please note that the “Display posts in columns” checkbox is not an option inside the dropdown list of the columns.
If not, kindly let us know, as this checkbox is part of the Blog module. There may be an issue causing it not to appear.
Kindly let us know how it goes. 🙂
