    Dear support team,

I’m having problems with loading the Customizer when I want to edit the GP theme. It just doesn’t load (only showing a blank page). What could this be about?

Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hi there,

generally its a PHP version or Memory issue.
If you go to Dashboard > Tools > Site Health.

First make sure there are no errors being reported.
Then go to the Info tab and open the Server settings tab. Let me know what values you have their, a screenshot will do.

    Hello,

I’ve got the same problem. Can I post my server setting tab here or should I open a new topic in order to not confuse with Christina’s settings ?

    Hi David,

Thank you for your quick feedback!

I did as you suggested and the Health Check said there was one issue: I should remove inactive themes. I have GP Theme as active and three other themes as inactive, waiting to be updated. So maybe the themes are interfering with each other?

I really don’t need the other 3 themes but I haven’t found a button to remove them, only to update them (I think these are the standard WordPress Themes). Maybe I need to update them first before I can remove them? Thanks if you can let me know, how to delete them.

Sorry, I haven’t found a way to add a screenshot to this conversation, I added the server data to the private information section as copy+paste. Hope this helps to identify the issue.

    Thank you very much!

    Thanks,
    Christina

    Hi David,

I just googled and found out how to delete the themes and that’s what I did (so no need to help me out with that anymore). But there’s still no change with the customizer loading.

The health check now suggests that I should have a default theme as fallback solution installed… not sure if this is something that will help with he customizer.

Having old themes only poses a potential security risk, which should never be the case with the default WP TwentySomething themes. They don’t eat up memory or clash with others. So its ok to add back in a TwentyTwenty theme for fall back

Server settings – i would recommend increasing the folllowing:

PHP max input variables > 4000
    PHP Time limit > 1200
    Max input time > 600

    The:

    Upload max filesize 150M
    PHP post max size 150M

should be fine, but you may want to increase them if you want to import a site from our library or content from another WP Site.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the recommendation with the themes. This is now resolved and I don’t have any open topics in the Site Health section.

About the server settings – this is probably something which needs to be done by my web host, correct? I haven’t found a way to do it myself (except the “Upload max filesize 150M / PHP post max size 150M” – it looks like I can change it myself in my web host admin area).

Or could it be that I have an old PHP version (7.4.)? I just noticed that I could also switch to 8.0. Should I try that?

    Thanks
    Christina

    That is correct.

PHP 7.4 is fine to use. Not every WP plugin supports 8.0 yet, so if you do choose to go to 8.0 then beware.

The other issue on that note, could be a plugin conflict which you can test by disabling all plugins apart from GP Premium.

    Thank you, David.

I tried disabling all plugins except GP Premium but no change.

However I found another solution, I tried a different browser – Firefox instead of Safari – and in Firefox the Customizer loads normally! Until now I always used Safari and never had problems.

Well that is strange. I wonder if theres a bad cookie stored in the Safari browser thats causing an issue. What happens if you login in a Private Safari browsers ?
