Rob
The favicon for my site is still not showing in mobile search. I googled the topic today and saw that someone else had the same issue. The advice from GP was to place the favicon in the root directory and turn off the ‘site icon’ in the GP Customizer. So I’ve done that (today). The result is I now don’t even have a favicon in my WP dashboard. And the favicon is still not showing in mobile search. I really don’t know what to do anymore. I talked to my web host about it, I’ve talked to GP about it, I’ve cleared the cache in my Cloudflare DNS. There’s really nothing else I can think of. But obviously, I can’t go on not having a favicon in mobile search (that’s going to damage my SEO). So I’m starting to think I need to change to a different theme. If you have any other ideas as to how I can resolve this, I’d be most grateful. Thanks.

StaffCustomer SupportWell the favicon is working in the browser. Which is good.
But on Mobile SERPs – i hadn’t seen this before:https://www.screencast.com/t/wds13h4iwOX
SERPs is displaying an image, it just happens to be totally transparent.
So i checked the site, and in the
<head>there is the link, which is correct in markup and size for Google SERPs:<link rel="shortcut icon" href="https://robpowellbizblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/rpbb-favicon-48x48-1.ico">But then i checked the root and found this:
https://robpowellbizblog.com/favicon.ico
Running it through the realfavicon generator site it returns these results:
So theres some issues with the favicon in the root, and it also is different to the one in the link.
Scrap the one you have in the root and replace it with the image file you have in the Link. This will cover all bases.
But ultimately, its down to Google to display the image, they even state in their guidelines a valid favicon may not be displayed.

Thanks for that. I have now done that: uploaded my favicon to this filepath: https://robpowellbizblog.com/favicon.ico
Hopefully that will do it. I’ll wait to see if Google Search (mobile) corrects itself.Thanks.

StaffCustomer SupportIt may take a little while or force Google to reindex that page to get it to appear.
Its great that Google decided to add the favicon as an icon, but i sure wish they were more transparent about their algos decision making on how , why or when it would be displayed. Got to love google. At least all the markup and images look valid now, so there is no explainable reason why it shouldn’t appear.
Glad to be of help.
