Ben
I’m using “Dispatch” layout from the site library with WP Show Posts.
ALL the archive pages are showing the “Current post” Featured Image from the first post in the Archive.
– and the only options I can see are “Previous post” and “Next post”1.) I am unable to find any way to make the Archives load their very own featured images:
Examples with a featured image added:
https://fabulous1950s.com/transportation/motorcycles/
https://fabulous1950s.com/beer/There was no option to add a Featured Image in a Category so I have installed:
– Post Category Image With Grid and Slider plugin
– and the Categories with featured images do show them: https://fabulous1950s.com/1950s-posts/1.) In a custom post type (Countries), the Featured Image will load above the content, but I have no idea how to make that happen in the Header…
I’d be most appreciative of any assistance on this, thanks ๐
Kind regards

StaffCustomer SupportHi Ben,
If I may suggest an alternative:
You can create a custom field that saves the images for the category terms or tag terms. This way you can assign an image to each terms.
And then make a separate Block Element – Page hero for the archive pages.
For it’s dynamic background image, instead of fetching for “featured image”, fetch the image value of the custom field.

Hi Elvin
I messed around with the Custom Fields on custom post types and Categories etc but after a joyless hour I gave up on that ๐
Because I already had a plugin to add Featured Images to the Categories, I was able to use “Inspect Element” to figure out what the “Term” used on the Cat Featured Images images was. Your solution to use Term there won that battle. The featured images now loads as advertised, as per:
– https://fabulous1950s.com/motorcycles/The custom post type for Countries seems immune to that fix though but that’s a lesser issue right now.
– I’m perfectly happy for the rest of the dayKind regards

โ Iโm perfectly happy for the rest of the dayIs this for the CPT archives? Does the CPT use the same taxonomy? If it doesn’t, it won’t pull the same values. ๐

Right – when I have a few minutes to spare I will try to get the ” Post Category Image With Grid and Slider plugin” to work with the Custom Post Type archives. If that’s possible, it would solve all the issues I have.
Kind regards

StaffCustomer SupportYou can ask it’s plugin developer if it has any filter or option within the UI to specify with post type can use it.
It’s worth a try. ๐

Oh, it turned out to not be that hard – I just added Post Country Archive under Post Category Archive ๐
– which fixed THAT problem, but of course the First Law of Physics prevails…Now I have the Featured Image AND the Archive Description in the Header – perfect…
But the Description also appears (duplicated) in the Top of the archive page too ๐
– https://fabulous1950s.com/country/new-zealand/Which may require some surgery on the taxonomy template?
Kind regards

StaffCustomer SupportOn the block element, you should see this option – https://share.getcloudapp.com/6quYkk0v
Make sure they are ticked. ๐
