    Hello,

For category descriptions that are very long I would like to add a “MORE” so that it displays everything before the more tag and then if you click more it expands to display all the description text.

This should explain it as well but the more tag does not work when used in category description: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-more-tag/

    Hi JC,

Read more tag only works in posts, it won’t work in the description.

Unfortunately, the effect you are trying to achieve will require some custom Javascripts coding, or you can try to search for a plugin that does this.

    Hope this is helpful šŸ™‚

How can this require a custom plugin and custom javascript if it’s built in to wordpress including in the category editor? This should work out the box on posts, pages and categories.

I mean your own docs refer to it: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-more-tag/

“The More tag allows you to specify a custom cut off point for your posts on the index pages (archive, category, tags etc.). Readers have to click on the ā€œmore linkā€ or ā€œread moreā€ in order to view the complete post.

Yes, we specified posts in the article, and the category description is not a post.

Please refer to Tom’s answer here:

So 5 years after that post and still won’t work where most themes supports the more tag in cat description. Another plugin I will have to use but could have been easily solved in GP

    Hi JC,

I feel like there is a bit of miscommunication here so let’s take a step back.

The Categories screen you see in the dashboard is handled by WordPress completely – GP doesn’t add or remove any options or functionalities there.

This means that everything you can do for categories using a Twenty series WP theme should work in GP as well (unless I’m missing something here).

And by default, the category description is a text field so no HTML should render there.

Are you using any special plugins for the functionality you are referring to?

If I’m missing something here, can you explain the differences when using a Twenty series WP theme vs GP?

    Thanks!
