Hi,
even though I have added a favicon to my site still it is not showing up in Google search results. It used to appear but I don’t know when did it go away. I just noticed today.
Please check the screenshots

StaffCustomer Supporthi there,
Check this:
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/appearance/favicon-in-searchMind the rel attribute values.
Note: It’s up to Google when they’ll put your site’s favicon. It may take a few days or weeks if you just made the change.

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
check the sizes of your favicon images – one of them is stated as 50x50px – they need to be a multiple of 48px square – as noted in the doc that Elvin provided.

Hi David,
I am not sure why it sets 50×50. I have set my favicon by going to Customize > SiTE Identity.
and its size is 144×144

2. https://paste.pics/CL77Iand here’s the URL of the favicon image I am using.
https://spydrill.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/SD-favicon.pngI am not sure from where in Generatepress theme settings it is using 50×50 resolution. If you see next to it, it is using correct resolution.
Can you please provide a fix?

Any update? from where it is picking up a 50×50 sizE? As you can see the size next next to it is a multiple of 48.
As on my other sites using GP Premium, it doesn’t.

StaffCustomer SupportSorry my bad – at first look i only saw the 50×50 image which is generated for touch devices.
I can’t see whats stopping the browser or google from interpretting the icon file… its there its not 404ing so there is no explainable reason for it.The best solution is to create a .ico file:
and upload it to the root of your wordpress site

Hi David,
So 50×50 is fine and I can keep it?
I noticed that there was an icon generated by Yoast SEO schema. In Yoast SEO settings I had set it as 32×32 version in “Yoast SEO > Search Appearance > Organization Logo”. Now I have changed it to the same favicon version.
If this doesn’t help then I will remove the icon from Yoast SEO settings altogether.
And if that also doesn’t work then I will go with .ico
Thanks!

StaffCustomer SupportYes its fine to keep the 50×50 – its auto generated.
Try the other method if removing the Yoast icon doesn’t work.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperI’m afraid I’m not sure why Google wouldn’t use the favicon – I’m not super familiar with their rules and when they do/don’t apply.
This might help?: https://stackoverflow.com/a/60153110

Hi David & Tom,
I have tried everything and waited too but Google isn’t picking up the favicon.
Any suggestions?
Best,

StaffCustomer SupportI checked your site favicon vs the guidelines that Elvin provided and i see no issues there. Which is kinda expected as the favicon is displayed in the browser.
Have you tried requesting a reindex of the home page for the favicon ( see bottom of guideline doc ) ?
