Hello. I have read a lot of posts about error 500 on import.
We’ve had it in the past and are having it again now when trying to import ‘Merch’.
Server is setup as per recommendations. Debugging turned on but no debug.log created.

Stage one works, plugins all end up with checkmarks, but 500 error is thrown early on in plugin import stage.

Turned off all plugins apart from GP Premium, tried again, got the final message that all had worked, go visit site … except it hadn’t … plugins worked, Woo pages present, but that’s it, no theme pages, not one single image (nothing that presumably should come in from gpsites.co).

We’ve replicated exactly the same on a local environment, so at a total loss.
Happy to setup test WP Admin account if useful.

    Hi,

You can check this brief documentation about encountered errors.
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/error-codes-importing/#server-error-500

Yes, been there, done all that – as you can see in original post, server settings correct, debugging turned on, but no debug.log being created.

Please read the entire post – we have got a partial import to work but none of the content from gpsites.co is imported, just the Woo stuff and plugins. We can also see the exact same fails (on Merch and Stream templates) on a local dev server, so we are well past the ‘read the simple doc’ stage.

    Hi there,

if you would set up a test account we would be happy to take a look to see if we can spot the issue.

    Hi there,

An error 500 will always result in an error in your error logs as long as your server is configured properly. Can you check with your hosting to see if there’s an error_log file somewhere you can look at? It’s a very broad error, so we need some more details to narrow it down.

    Let me know 🙂

Hello. Was hoping that you would use the WP admin account to take a look yourselves.
Not trying to be unhelpful but we’ve gone as far as we can on this – there’s no debug.log being written, and the error_log in both wp-content and root have nothing in them.

Local dev environment (no cPanel) has nothing at all in syslog, apache or WP debug.log – the latter is logging locally, just nothing to do with this error.

Without an actual error log, it’s near impossible to figure out the cause of the issue.

The 500 error is an error, so it will print to the error_log file if the server is configured properly. Who are you hosted with?

I’ll give the import a shot as well. Just to confirm, do I have permission to import Merch on the site you provided?

    Let me know 🙂

    So here’s what I did:

    1. Imported Marketer (simple site just to test) – worked perfectly.

    2. Removed Marketer and imported Merch. Saw some Query Monitor issues references lines in our plugin that don’t make any sense (undefined indexes on lines that are comments etc..).

    3. Went into the plugin file on the server to see if those files had been changed – all was normal.

    4. Removed Merch, and tried again. It imported fine (all content is there).

I’m assuming there’s some sort of server caching going on that was confusing the importer. It seems going into the file or simply re-doing the import cleared that cache and allowed it to import normally.

You should see Merch live on the site now. I did deactivate the other active plugins to rule out a plugin conflict, so you’ll need to re-activate the ones you need.
