hi guys,
as i am heading more and more for simpler approaches for more ‘simple’ sites with gp and gutenberg / generateblocks there seem to be several things to sort out – especially regarding sites for customers …
– default settings in general.
any chance to have the settings for fonts and colors etc. transferred into gutenberg?seems kind of irritating not to have all that reflected in gutenberg as we had in the classic editor. explained better: gutenberg now has wysiwyg but does not reflect the gp settings.
and theres plenty of room for users to do what they want with settings and colors (even if not wanted)no default settings for fonts, not for colors. no reflection of custom code at all (additional link tweaks etc.)
for buttons we cant even style a hover state in gutenberg, but we have a ‘useless’ one in gp.
same for color palette.
can be defined for the customizer, but no use for gutenberg too.would love to see any deeper integration for that.
so as there is generateblocks (hopefully strongly) emerging – any plans to have this sorted out in any convenient way?

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
we’re currently looking at GB Defaults and Dynamic Styles with Theme/Editor integrations, its something high on our list of features.
GB 1.2 ( currently in Alpha ) is a major code update that gets it prepared for GB Pro and sets it on solid ground for the future. Once we have GB 1.2 and GB Pro, this request will be a major focus.
In the meantime GB, like GP, has plenty of filters for setting defaults. Tom provides an example here that passes the GP button styles to GB defaults:

hi david,
sounds promising 🙂
does this enclude deeper integration of gp settings for all native gutenberg things too, or just referring to generateblocks?

StaffCustomer SupportThe current theme styling for things such as colors and typography already apply to the core blocks. What we’re looking at is updates to both Theme and GB so we can consolidate styling controls to one place ( hopefully ) or at least minimise various interfaces.
We’re also at the whim of what WP Core does in regards to Full Site Editing and opening up the interface more for Block Styles. What we don’t want to do is add some GP or GB specific function that becomes obsolete code if core introduces the same feature.
Lots of moving parts here, but we’re working on it!

thanks david,
The current theme styling for things such as colors and typography already apply to the core blocks.
… this is something i am actually missing on a site where gutenberg is used for blog entries – there is no preview of the gp theme settings regarding several things: fonts (at least not for self hosted fonts implemented via child), buttons (not at all)…
thats the reason i’ve asked 🙂
but looking forward with exitement to any improvement!

StaffCustomer SupportYeah Buttons is one thing overall all the global styles that we need to tackle first. Hence that topic above i linked to is required today.
Localised fonts and anything custom CSS also requires registering in the editor styles, which i believe you’re aware of from other topics. WP sure makes these things more complicated then they should be 🙂

… yeah. well aware of these mantraps especially for local fonts and more gutenberg related things.
dazzled from the first introduction on regarding the somewhat lacking integration of their own customizer. and i fully understand how hard it might be to follow these partly ‘strange’ approaches as a theme and plugin developer.just more high hopes towards the success of the gp team for solving (those) things (as well) 🙂
