How do I customize the blog excerpt. It is all squeezed together with title etc. No spaces between sentences or paragraphs. How to customize to make the excerpt readable.

Yes this is exactly what I’m seeing. There is no formatting of the excerpt text. The headline merges with the ext. The text shown is actually a couple of paragraphs but is shown only as one long text sentence.
If you can’t see and resolve this issue than GP has a huge flaw in it.

It is the WordPress default behaviour to strip HTML from the Excerpt.
If you want to keep the formatting either use the More Tag:https://docs.generatepress.com/article/using-the-more-tag/
