Woocommerce gallery images kill category display
11 replies · Started by Stewart on May 26, 2021
This is weird. I'm doing a website for a restaurant. I have a lot of images of various dishes. I'd like to add some gallery images to the each dish, but find that simply adding a single gallery image often kills whole category the product belongs to.
I've updated, tried another browser, removed surplus plugins and every alternative I can find.
But sometimes I can add images to the gallery from 300k to 1Mb, often four or five. But when I did this, though the category the item belongs to did display, the display for all products wouldn't work, but it does work if I open the Customize menu item.
I've left login information below. The product I was playing with is called Afang Soup, which is under the Soup menu. All is working normally now except the Products category (it's actually a page with a shortcode to display all categories).
Hi there,
I'm not sure I see what you mean.
Here's what the Soup category looks like on my end - https://share.getcloudapp.com/4gunAKQl
The products page displays nothing - https://share.getcloudapp.com/d5uAl9Br
Can you show us a sample occurrence of this issue?
What's happening is the Products menu item won't display products (there are 50-odd dishes that should be displayed) unless I open the Customize link. Here's a screen video to show what I'm talking about: http://franyzkitchen.ca/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Screen-Recording-2021-05-27-at-10.46.31-AM.mov
Hi Stewart,
The login info doesn't work for me, could you check?
Thanks!
Had to change the password but here it is again in the private info box.
I logged in, but don't have the access to the customizer, could you provide that as well?
Thanks!
Sorry-- I didn't make you an administrator. It should be working now.
That's strange. When something works in the customizer but not live site then it's typically a caching issue.
Any server caching?
If not then you will need to go through some debugging steps like disabling all plugins except GP Premium and WooCommerce, activate a Twenty series default theme to test.
I disabled all non-essential plugins, cleared the caches in both Firefox and Safari and switched to the Twenty-Nineteen theme. On both my desktop and laptop (Macs) none of the menu items work unless I log in and turn on Customize, then everything works.
You have my permission to fiddle with the site as it's not being used by anyone. Any help appreciated.
So it doesn't work in a Twenty nineteen either?
Do you see anything in error_log?
No, as I said, it doesn't work in 2019. I don't know where to look for errors.
This should help:

Unfortunately we can only provide limited help here as it's not a theme issue.
You could try checking with your hosting support to see if they can see any issues on their end.
