WooCommerce category images

Hello GP'ers,

I built an affiliate webshop for a customer with Datafeedr. Products (and their images) are uploaded in WooCommerce through a daily feed. Every connected merchant works with different size images though. The result in some cases is that product category images are not the same.

Examples:
https://houseofcats.nl/product-categorie/krabben-en-spelen/krabpaal/krabpaal-groot/

- too "high"

https://houseofcats.nl/product-categorie/eten-en-drinken/voerbakken/page/3/

- "missing" width

The shop consists of 7000 products from which 10/20% is not "right". The customer does't want to do any manual labour so I've been searching for and trying with all kind of solutions, but nothing works satisfactory. My guess is in the end that a bit of manual work is unavoidable in this case BUT Datafeedr tells the customer that the theme developer should have a solution for this.

Searching the support forum I found a reply from David in a similar thread where he also states that you should upload images without different aspect ratios etc. but to be 100% sure, hereby the question to you guys:

Is there a way? With CSS or whatever to somehow make all images fit well without manual labour or not?

On behalf of all the cats in the world...thanks in advance ;-)

Kind regards,
Michael

Hi there,

Unfortunately there isn't a way to do that as you've researched.

You can imagine how it's basically impossible to size the tall picture down to the small size without cropping or making it extremely small and not viewable: https://www.screencast.com/t/0R6Ge2hv

You could try using WooCommerce' customizer options but I don't think it will work for pictures that are this different in size:
https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-customizer/

One thing for sure is that this is definitely not a theme issue as Datafeedr suggested :)

Hope this helps!

Hi Leo,

Thanks very much for your confirmation as expected.

Have a nice one!

All the best,
Michael

No problem :)
