Widget areas in sections

First: GeneratePress is a splendid theme. To the question: Is there a way to put widgets in the sections area? I use GP Premium 1.2.86.
It would be great to have the ability to show different post categories using a row of widgets inside sections.

You can use a plugin like this to turn widgets into shortcodes, which you can then add into sections: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/plugins/widget-shortcode/
