Why can't I hide the slide out menu on tablet

The slide out menu doesn't work on a tablet in portrait view. I WANT TO HIDE THE SLIDEOUT MENU ON TABLE in portrait view. It doesn't work anyway. The answer I'm looking for is:
How do I make the slideout menu NOT APPEAR on a tablet in portrait view? Please answer this specific question.
