WebP images support

Hello and happy new year!
I've just installed ShortPixel to optimize the site speed since it was being too slow. But I just noticed that I had enabled to optimize the images by changing them to WebP images, without knowing that my blog doesn't support WebP images.
Now, most images within posts are not showing. (They're still there though) Is there any way to support the WebP images within the theme? I read somewhere that it can be done by using a hook to WP functions but I'm not sure how.
Any help would be really appreciated!
