WebM support

I am managing a website for Sign Language users, and we are trying to make the website more accessible by including more Sign Language. The website is https://deaf.org.nz
We have started using GIFs as Featured Images to provide a snippet of what the video post includes. Unfortunately, GIFs are huge and this impacts the website performance. I have tried to convert a GIF to a WebM file format and replace the GIF with the WebM as a Featured Image, but this does not work. The WebM file is uploaded to the Media Manager. It plays fine in the Media Manager.
Not sure if this is an issue with GeneratePress or WordPress. I have turned off the SG Optimizer Plugin.
Hi there,
Yes, this is a non-theme related issue. :)
Maybe you could try this?: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/18102239/webm-video-wont-run-with-wordpress
also see: https://intercom.help/elegantthemes/en/articles/2332500-video-background-is-not-working
Hope you get to resolve this as soon as possible. :)
Thanks for your prompt response. I've already tried adding AddType video/webm .webm to .htaccess but it does not work.
We can close this ticket. Thank you.
You’re welcome! Alternatively, you can also try Webp as they should also support animation: https://developers.google.com/speed/webp/faq#why_should_i_use_animated_webp
Hope you get to resolve the issue as soon as possible! Feel free to reach out if you’ll have any further inquiries. :)
Woah! That works! WebP! I thought it was static images only.
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! Glad to be of assistance. :)
