Hello,

Leo asked me to create a new topic, so here it is!

I went to the page here to help put a video in the header: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/page-hero-background-video/

It says: "We just need to add some HTML into the content area, and add some CSS to our site. The first thing we need to do is structure our HTML within our Element content."

No matter how much I search or Google, I can't find this "content area" or where to add the CSS, never mind "structuring our HTML within our Element content"! I know it'll be something simple but I can't just see it.

Any pointers on where it is? Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

you will need to begin by creating a Header Element:

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/header-element-overview/

With the header element, you go to the Page Hero tab, and paste the HTML into the text area provided.

The CSS you can add to the Customizer > Additional CSS or in your Child Themes styles.css ( if you're using one ).

Okay, so I did as you said but nothing's happened. I should probably explain: I'm using the "ethos" template as I figured editing it would be a lot easier than starting from scratch as a total noob.

I used the original header element that came with the template. It's a "merge." The only other text in the HTML box was: <!-- comment -->

So, I put the HTML from the other post (at https://docs.generatepress.com/article/page-hero-background-video/) under that and removed the video formats I don't need and changed the location of the video file to the one I uploaded to the Media section. The website looks exactly the same as before, except now it says: "Your element content in here" above the header image. So, I went in and deleted that too. Still not working.

Can you share a link to the site where i can 'see' the issue?

For some reason, the site doesn't look the way it should and only looks right with the "preview" link.

The site is temporary as I don't want it to be live yet.

I need a login. You can share URLs and Login details in the Private Information field.

Done. Please see below.

I assume those are for the WP Login ? As You have a separate front end login that i need access to first :)

D'oh! Told you I'm a non-technie! I included the details below.

I don't know what happened. I just updated the password with the one below. Hopefully this one will work!

Can you authorize admin access to the username so that we can see your settings for the Header element?

Done! Sorry about this being more difficult than it has to be! Fred Flintstone is my cousin.

No worries :P

1. I'll recommend using a new Header element, and keep the original one as it is. Because the original one is for merge purposes site-wide.

2. Once you create a new header element, copy-paste the HTML code to it, and you'll need to add top/bottom paddings for it, the value depends on how tall you want the video block to be:

3. Under display rule, set the location to where you want it to display.

Let me know when you are done with the 3 steps, then we can have another look :)

Thanks, Ying. I did as you suggested but nothing has changed.

What I want is to have a video header instead of a static image, that's all.
