Very disappointed with low customizability

I was on the lookout for a minimal theme that offers a lot of customizability. I was planning to build a simplistic layout like this one: https://www.swimuniversity.com/best-robotic-pool-cleaners/

However, it seems that many features that some might expect from the Pro version of a theme are simply not present, and I'll instead be forced to use custom CSS for each and everything apart from a few basic things like container width, fonts, etc.

For example:

- No option by default to make post title wider than post content and featured image, and vice versa.
- No option to set custom colors only for headings within single posts (but not pages).
- No responsive font sizes. This is a huge nuisance, as setting large font sizes for H1s on Desktop leads to displaying the same huge H1s on mobile, which hugely affects mobile readability.
- Very limited customizability of the site header. No option to add social media icons in the header next to navigation bar.
- Author box is unavailable by default.
... and many more limitations.

Am I doing something wrong or am I supposed to use custom CSS or use additional plugins for those things?

Hi there,

do you have the various modules activated:

https://docs.generatepress.com/article/installing-gp-premium/#activate-your-modules

I say this as the Typography module adds mobile responsiveness to the common elements.

The Elements module is a real powerful function and is great for creating page heros, hooking in content as well as dynamically changing the layout.

The Site Header also has a dedicated Widget area. And you can add social icons in the nav easily with the WP Menu e.g
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-icons-to-menu-items/

Things like Author box, we have had fewer requests for as most users prefer a plugin which provides greater customization. But we can help if you need one, ie. this Site in our Site Library has a custom built one using the Hook Element:

We're more than happy to help with any requirements.

Sorry David, I finally found the options for #2 and #3 within Customizer. It felt awkward at first that the theme would need me to use custom CSS for such basic things.

Thanks for the other solutions.

Thanks for this assurance, as well. I'll open another thread if I need any help with anything in particular.

You're welcome :)
