    Hi there

    Thanks for a great theme, really loving it. I’m currently working at switching our WordPress theme to Generate Press in a staging environment and also switching from WP Bakery to Elementor. I downloaded the Dispatch site but have deleted all the associated Elements as well as the happy forms and WP Posts plugins which I don’t need. I have disabled my cache plugin and cleared browser

    I have a handful of questions I’d love support with as I work through this conversion:

    1. Minor Formatting:
    – I’d like to make the body text Montserrat font and colour black across all our pages (along with consistent link colours) and I’d like to control it from the Generate Press Theme ‘customise’ area but my content text is coming up as grey (example for a page converted to Elementor here: https://www.staging.sustainablejungle.com/write-for-us/). Using developer tools, it looks like it is inheriting a style from Elementor. How do I make sure that Elementor is instead pulling through global settings that I set in Generate Press? Or is this a question for Elementor?
    – The Dispatch main menu navigation has a think grey line that runs horizontally along the top (full width) and a thick great line under whichever menu item is highlighted. I’d like to remove both these lines altogether if possible – is there an easy way to do this? (see my site here: https://www.staging.sustainablejungle.com/ – my main menu is now in the top Right Corner)
    – I had a secondary menu I was just using for social media buttons just like on my original page (https://www.sustainablejungle.com/) but on mobile this secondary menu turns into the classic mobile menu which isn’t ideal. Is there a way to hide the secondary menu on mobile?
    – I’d like to make the copyright stamp at the very bottom of the page smaller, is this possible? Is it also possible to remove it altogether (I’m thinking of replacing with a footer i designed in Elementor) – i have tried simply making the feature in layout>Footer blank but it auto generates another copyright stamp

    2. Archives: My category pages are looking pretty weird – see here
    (https://www.staging.sustainablejungle.com/category/sustainable-living/). Is there a way to unscramble the title headings of posts, change the excerpt size and font and also change the excerpt length (when I change the length using the feature in Layout>>Blog, nothing happens.

    3. Issues with customisation not working:
    – as mentioned about, I can’t get the excerpt length feature to work

    4. Sidebars: Is there a way to create more than one Right Sidebar? I’ve love to have different sidebars on different types of posts.

    5. Additional CSS:
    I have two errors showing up (although I have not touched the additional CSS area at all) which is coming up as a warning saying “Update anyway, even though it might break your site?” – what should I do about these errors? Details:

    First row below is row 208 and the error is “Expected RBRACE at line 208, col 42.”
    The second row is 209 and the error is “Unexpected token ‘1fr’ at line 209, col 29.”

    {
    grid-template-columns: repeat(8, 1fr);
    grid-template-rows: 1fr auto;
    }

    6. I plan to merge my staging environment into my actual site next weekend. Is there anything I need to know or prepare for from a theme / Generate Press licensing perspective?

    Many thanks in advance, really appreciate the help,
    Joy

    Hi there,

    1.
    – See #1 here and some other useful tips from David:
    https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/guidelines-to-use-elementor-with-generatepress/#post-870937

    – Remove this CSS from Additional CSS field in the customizer:

    .main-navigation .inside-navigation {
        border-top: 0.5px solid #d4d7d8;
    }
    @media (min-width: 769px) {
        .main-navigation ul li {
            position: relative;
        }

        .main-navigation ul li:after {
            content: '';
            position: absolute;
            height: 0;
            width: 100%;
            bottom: 0;
            left: 0;
            pointer-events: none;
            filter: hue-rotation(90deg);
            -webkit-filter: hue-rotation(90deg);
            -webkit-transition: height 0.35s ease;
            transition: height 0.35s ease;
        }

        .main-navigation ul li:hover:after, .main-navigation ul li.current-menu-item:after {
            height: 6px;
        }
    }

    – Perhaps this should help:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/disable-secondary-navigation-mobile-menu/

    – What do you mean by “smaller”? Like smaller font? If you want to remove it overall, you can create a layout element for it:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/layout-element-overview/#disable-element

    2. Remove this CSS:

    @media (min-width: 768px) {
    .generate-columns-container article .entry-header .entry-title, .wp-show-posts article .wp-show-posts-entry-title {
        line-height: 2.5ex;
        height: 5ex;
        overflow: hidden;
        text-overflow: ellipsis;
    }
    }

    And this CSS for the excerpt size:

    .generate-columns-container article .inside-article .entry-summary {
        margin-top: 0.5em;
        font-size: 0.8em;
    }

    The font should be the same as body font in the customizer unless you want something different?

    4. Do you mean different sidebar content? If so try this plugin:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/content-aware-sidebars/

    5. Those are just warnings. Wouldn’t worry about 🙂

    6. Nope nothing special 🙂

    Amazing thanks so much Leo!

    A couple of follow ups:

    1. Minor formatting:
    – Back to the point about the secondary menu. Perhaps I could instead add an Element in to add social media buttons in the top right or left corner. Or is that not how elements work?
    – Copyright: Yep keen to just make this smaller, is that possible, I don’t want to disable the whole footer (at least I think I don’t)?
    -*New formatting question*: Is there a way to center all the page headings on every page instead of having them left aligned? e.g. “SUSTAINABLE & ETHICAL FASHION” on this page: https://www.staging.sustainablejungle.com/category/sustainable-fashion/

    2. On the Archives pages, thank you, that code removal helped to unjumble but now our title and excerpt are wider than the images. There seems to be no column spacing for them. What’s the best way to fix this? Example: https://www.staging.sustainablejungle.com/category/sustainable-living/

    3. If I want to reduce the length of the excerpt on the archive pages, how do I do that? The global function under layout>Blog doesn’t seem to work for me still. Similarly, if I want to add a read more button, that doesn’t seem to work either? Presume WP Posts is overriding something?

    4. Should I be taking out all the WP Posts CSS code since I deleted the plugin?

    Really appreciate the help!

    Cheers,
    joy

    1.
    – You can consider using the top bar widget area:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/top-bar-widget-area/

    – You can try the font size option under Typography Footer. If you want to change the copyright line only, try this CSS:

    .copyright-bar {
        font-size: 10px;
    }

    – This should center the page title:

    h1.page-title, .h1.entry-title, .entry-header {
        text-align: center;
    }

    2. Is the featured image size set to 350 by 350?
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adjusting-the-featured-images/

    If so can you try removing that so it goes back to Auto?

    3. Is this the page with the issue?
    https://www.staging.sustainablejungle.com/category/sustainable-living/

    Looks like you might be using the excerpt metabox for posts?

    4. If you deleted WP Show Posts then yes you can remove the CSS.

    Great thanks Leo!

    For 1. The copyright CSS works perfectly thanks! But the header doesn’t work. Is there something else I can try?

    For 2. I’ve reset the images to Auto and now there is no padding at all which also looks strange, I’d like to just have a gap between posts much like on the original (https://www.sustainablejungle.com/category/sustainable-living/)

    It looks like this piece of CSS code might have something to do with it. If I take out the first 0 after “padding” I get clear gaps between posts but they’re too big and I have fiddled around with different numbers to replace this 0 but nothing works. Any ideas?

    .generate-columns .inside-article {
    padding: 0 0 55px;
    }

    For 3. I’m not sure what the excerpt meta box is but when I have added posts, I add an excerpt to Yoast SEO meta description as well as to the manual excerpt box (which allowed me to pick which words I use in the excerpt for each post on the old theme). Is this what is causing the problem?

    Many thanks,
    Joy

    1. I’ve updated the CSS above.

    2. Try removing that CSS and add some separating space:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/separating-space/

    3. This is the excerpt metabox I’m referring to:
    https://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-customize-wordpress-excerpts-no-coding-required/

    When this is used, all the content inside that box displays which is the purpose of excerpt metabox.
