Hello !
Congrats on the Theme & Plugins, that’s really well done (and I’ve used pretty much every framework and stuff like DWB).
Question :
As usual translations leave a lot to desire, or maybe that’s just me that got so used to using english, anyway I want to use GP (dashboard functions & customizer options) ENTIRELY IN ENGLISH.
I have already deleted all fr_FR mo and po files inside the gp-premium/langs folder but I still have quite a lot of customizer options en French.
How can I get all of this in english, working with broken french is a nightmare.
Thanks a lot,
Cheers,

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperHi there,
Why not just set your language to English in the WP settings? Or is that not an option for you?

Hi Tom,
The problem is I need the frontend to be still in french…
Else I think I got why I now have half the customizer in english, half in french… seems like GP added some customizer items (which go back to english after deleting the mo/po files) but also use some defaults customizer entries (e.g. for header) which are still in french as I believe they are “core translated”.
Anyway seems like I’ll have to either continue with my settings half french half english, or have the entire thing in french… argh π
btw: it seems like on the frontend I have “3 thoughts on” above the comments, is that something from GP ? Was is translated in one of those mo/po ile I deleted ?
Or is there a way to translated front-end items (my guess is: it’s mostly comment related and maybe also 404 page text or the like).
Thanks,

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperActually, if you set your language in “Settings > General”, you should then be able to set your Dashboard language for your account in “Users > Your Profile”.
As for the comments title, it seems our French translation needs updating: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress/fr/default
If you’d like to contribute there, I can suggest that you become an editor so you can approve translations.

Thanks for the tip regarding Backend / Frontend in different languages.
I couldn’t find the “3 thoughts on” entry in the missing translation items of https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress/fr/default?filters%5Bterm%5D&filters%5Buser_login%5D&filters%5Bstatus%5D=untranslated&filter=Filter&sort%5Bby%5D=priority&sort%5Bhow%5D=desc&page=1
Is the entry not there because it’s not integrated for translation (?)
I’ll add a few translations if I get some time π

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperIt has a suggestion, just needs to be approved: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-themes/generatepress/fr/default?filters%5Bstatus%5D=either&filters%5Boriginal_id%5D=3952588&filters%5Btranslation_id%5D=48286856

OK nevermind just found the entry.
It seems like I can do some translations but not approve them (and the “thoughts on” is not approved).

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperUsers have to be made “editors” to be able to approve translations.
To become an editor, you need to have suggestions added, then I need to request it.
The French team is pretty strict and asks the user to join their Slack channel before approving them as an editor. That’s why our French translation doesn’t have an editor yet, no one has wanted to join Slack and talk to them.

OK lol, what an effective process, so unless they have an editor we won’t have the “thoughts on xxx” frontend text translated anytime soon ?
Tell me how to have that status, I don’t want to wait forever just to have 1 phrase correctly translated on the frontend.

Lead DeveloperLead DeveloperOnce you’ve suggested some translations, let me know your WP.org username and I’ll request you become an editor.
They’ll then ask you to join their Slack channel where I assume they’ll confirm you speak French.
Once that’s done, you’ll be able to edit/add/approve translations.
Thanks! π

Quick update : I’ve contacted one the french lead editor through the wordpress Slack channel mentioning this thread. Hopefully I’ll get an answer pretty soon, my “3 thoughts on” translation hasn’t been confirmed in 2 weeks so they must have a crazy backlog…
