I have seen quite a few posts from you advising against using Google fonts (because it will increase load times?) Confusing to me, because I thought the advantage of Google fonts was that they load fast…but I don’t know much about fonts I must admit.
I am using system, inherit for all my content but wanted something a bit different for the site title. Any comments as to why this is not a good idea?GeneratePress 2.2.2GP Premium 1.7.8March 9, 2019 at 10:50 am #834045LeoStaffCustomer SupportMarch 9, 2019 at 10:55 am #834047Cristo Rey
Do you mean they are better for everything rather than system–inherit? I was sure I had seen some posts here somewhere that advised against using Google fonts….can’t find them right now unfortunately.March 9, 2019 at 11:20 am #834061LeoStaffCustomer SupportMarch 9, 2019 at 11:26 am #834063Cristo Rey
Sorry, but now I am confused. You said Google Fonts is the best option, then you said system stack is best.March 9, 2019 at 3:44 pm #834166LeoStaffCustomer SupportMarch 10, 2019 at 10:02 am #834746Cristo Rey
Yes…site needs to be https…the instructions make that clear.March 10, 2019 at 10:19 am #834774TomLead DeveloperLead Developer
Google Fonts require a request to Google. HTTP requests will always slow your site down (sometimes hardly noticeable, sometimes more noticeable, it depends).
The fewer variants you choose to load with your fonts, the less time they will take to load.
Something like the System Stack will always be faster, as it’s not making an HTTP request – it loads the font from your computer.March 10, 2019 at 11:36 am #834833Cristo Rey
Thanks Tom…thought that was the case, but wanted to be sure. Great service from you as always.March 10, 2019 at 4:36 pm #834994
