Hi there, I saw there is a new update for Generatepress (from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2).
If I have understood correctly, Generatepress acts as a theme itself, and not each demo site that appears in the site library (such as Pixel that I’m using, Mellow, Tasty…).
Anyway, I have been adding some CSS modifications to the parent theme. I haven’t created a child theme yet.
I was wondering if updating Generatepress will make my website lose some of the personalization/customization I’ve made.
If so, I’ve been reading how to do a child theme, but I don’t know how to copy the modificactions I’ve already done to the parent theme.
Could you please help me remove my doubts? Should I actually do a child theme before updating Generatepress?
I hope I’ve been clear enough on my explanation.
Thanks in advance and best regards!

    Hi there,

Where are you adding the CSS currently? As long as you are adding them using one of the methods below then they will be saved through updates.
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-css/

Child theme is not required. But if you have more than let’s say 500 lines of CSS then we would recommend using one.

Let me know if this helps πŸ™‚

Hi Leo, I used code snippets plugin for some CSS (as Tom said I should) to translate the header of my frontpage into several languages:
    https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/polylang-translate-texts-in-pages-elements-media/

    Should it give any problem?
If so, should I uninstall “code snippets” and use “simple CSS” plugin instead?

Besides this, I used some others CSS in the specific metabox of each plugin (this last one shouldn’t give any problem as descripted on your link).

    Thanks again for your reply!

No. Tom’s code is PHP, not CSS. They are not the same.

    This should help:
    Adding CSS: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-css/
    Adding PHP: https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-php/

Ok, sorry for the confusion. So, if I update Generatepress to the last version, will the PHP code still work? Can I update without problem? Thanks again.
