Thank you and Sidebar Navigation menu to fold

First of all, I would like to thank you for the wonderful basic framework for building a website. I am taking my first steps in WordPress. My biggest concern was to give the website a look to my liking.
Now I have come to a point where I still need to turn to you for help once.
I would like to put a simple navigation menu in the right sidebar. At first, only the top menu items should be visible. The sub-items should only appear when you click on them.
For example, I have an author about whose 2 or 3 books I have written reviews. At the moment, the name and the sub-items are displayed, which I don't like. The list in the sidebar would get longer and longer and more and more confusing over time.
I know that this could be brought about by CSS instructions, but all my efforts have achieved nothing.

I noticed you are using widget to add the menu, I would suggest to use Secondary navigation instead.
1. Go to Appearance > Generatepress, activate the Secondary Nav moudle.
2. Assign the menu to Secondary navigation.
3. Go to customizer > layout > secondary navigation > Navigation Location, set it to Right sidebar.
4. Go to customizer > layout > Primary navigation > Navigation Dropdown, set it to Click - menu item.
Once it's done, we can have another look and help with some CSS solution to tweak the layout.

thanks for your really helpful tip. I wasn't aware that I could load anything additional after selecting the theme.
I will have a look at it this weekend.
Maybe it would also be better to include the side menu items in the top menu. There should be these mega menus, I have never used something like that.
Because a visitor to the site should be able to reach every menu item. For the mobile view only one menu can be selected.

On mobile, the secondary navigation will still be in sidebar, but down below the main content, it does not seem convenient for users.
In this case, you can try to add those menu items to Primary navigation as well, but use hide-on-desktop class to hide them on the desktop when the sidebar is on the side.

I didn't like the secondary navigation menu at all - just terrible! :-)
Of course I am aware that a lot could be customized here with CSS.
But I tried a mega menu now and this solution is just elegant for me.
