Stefanie
Hi there,
I will start next week with a new website project. Now I ask myself: does it make sense to install the GB 1.7 beta for this project, so that I will have no problems with the changeover later? Or is this not a good idea and I can switch to 1.7 without problems in the current project?
I have already prepared some patterns for this project in the past (with version 1.6). Can I just take them over (next week) or does it make sense to recreate them with 1.7 beta so that everything is from one source?
Thank you for a brief assessment

StaffCustomer SupportHi there,
Updates to 1.7 should be seemeless and any existing 1.6 content will remain exactly as it is today.
The major differences in 1.7 are how the container blocks work and the changes to the button wrapper. More info here: https://generateblocks.com/flexbox-sizing-tabs-accordions-more/#new-container-blockSo you can choose to keep 1.6 containers or update them in 1.7. Either way they will work as is.
As a general recommendation we tell people to not use beta versions on a live production site.
This is so we don’t get into trouble if a last minute breaking change has to be implemented or unfound bugs cause people issues.Next week we move to RC1 on Tuesday, where all updates are frozen and therefore the only updates before we go live is if we find bugs. Which should be few.
Me personally i would fire up a local dev site, import all my 1.6 patterns, update them all to 1.7 and see how they work. If there are no issues, when RC is released i would begin building with my 1.7 patterns. If there are problems, then fallback to your 1.6 versions.

Thank you for your assessment, David, that helps me a lot!

Thanks, I will do it the way you recommend it ๐One more question: Are the containers inside the grid-block also affected by the changes? Or does this only affect the container-block itself?

StaffCustomer SupportOne more question: Are the containers inside the grid-block also affected by the changes? Or does this only affect the container-block itself?
It affects all Container Block variants including those found inside the Grid Block.
The Grid Blocks container was the first ever variant. There are lots of container block variant, which have a unique attribute that describe its purpose as well as adding the extra functions such as the Grid Item and the Query Loops Post Template. The ( new 1.7 optional ) Buttons wrapper and Pro tabs and accordion are also built using Container Block variants.
Future updates – the Grid Block and the Figure wrapper for Image block will also be converted to Container variants.
Aside from removing optional HTML it means when we make improvements or add features to the Container Block, ALL variants can access them ๐
