Hi, I have a couple of things to ask if that's ok?
Firstly, I would like to add my social media icons in a widget but I cannot find the option for this in the widgets section. Can you please tell me how to do this as I don't want to use a plugin for this as it slows my site down too much.

Secondly, I would like my categories section to not drop down like it does, but instead to open into a new page where I can have some kind of grid set up. I feel my homepage is too link heavy and messy the way it is so I'd rather it open up into a new page.

Please can you direct me with this as simple as you can as I'm no techy.

Thanks :-)

Hi there,

1) There isn't a simple way without using the plugin unfortunately. Lightweight social icons is our usual recommendation:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/lightweight-social-icons/

The second option is to install FontAwesome and add the icons manually:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/font-awesome/

The first option should be the way to go :)

2)

Not quite sure if I understand. What do you by drop-down like it does? Can you explain a bit more?

Hi Leo, thanks for replying so fast!
I will take your advice on the social media plugin as it sounds like the best option.

As for the drop down menu. If you go onto my website https://zestforever.com/ you will see that when you click on the categories section in the header it drops down a menu with all the categories in. Instead of that dropping down (which looks a bit messy) I would like it to just open into a new page that has a list of the categories in (maybe in a grid or something). I see this is how other website do it. Do you know what I mean?

Thanks

Ok, don't click, just hover, that's what I mean :-)

Hi Leo,
It's ok, forget about the menu business as I think I may have made a mistake in what I was thinking of doing. Sorry.

However, going back to social media profiles, I have added mine in a side widget which is great on a laptop as you can see them immediately, but on a mobile device they are hard to find as they automatically get pushed to the very bottom of the page. This means they are hard to find because you have to scroll way down past all the comments and everything else to even see them.

Where do you think the best place is to put these social icons so they are easily found on mobile. I cannot see an option to have them 'sticky' or floating down the right hand side of the page. I would prefer to have them at the bottom of a post before and not after the comments section if that's possible?

Thanks again for all your help :-)

I cannot see an option to have them ‘sticky’ or floating down the right hand side of the page.

There is simply not enough space on a mobile screen (portrait) to have a sidebar layout unfortunately.

We can't move it to before the comment section but we can (both) sidebar widgets to below navigation on mobile if you'd like?

Another option is to consider the top bar widget area:
https://docs.generatepress.com/article/top-bar-widget-area/

Hi Leo,
I think I would like my side bar widgets below navigation bar then if you can tell me how to do that.

Thanks :-)

Leo, I have put the social icons at the top of my page to see what it would look like and I think it's ok, so don't worry about the navigation bar widget. Do you think it's ok to leave the right side bar social icons too? Or will this be too many and maybe affect page speed?

Thanks

Should have minimal impact :)

So everything is good now?
