Site Library Themes Delete All Content?

I was trying to reply to the thread I was participating in, but it was closed.
The question I have is:
"So the only way to 'activate' themes from the site library without completing deleting all content on a site is to use a child theme?"
Hi there,
GP Sites will add content, plugins, additional CSS and certain theme element content such as widgets and menus. They do not remove your existing content.
We do however advise against installing them on a pre-built site as results may not be as expected.
You could of course try it on a clone of the site and see what the result is.
1. Another issue- I just activated one of the site library themes on a new site (hobbynerds)
but it won't let me change the logo:
as you can see I've added my own logo in all possible areas, but it still isn't updating.
2. And the other issue- I've added a Footer Menu, but it doesn't appear in the Footer.
