Should I Compress files using Gzip by adding code to the .htaccess file

Is it good to add a compression code to the .htacess file for Gzip compression?
Will I be able to edit and work on the post like the same.
will I be able to update the theme?
Hi there, looks like your site already has GZIP compression enabled. Its quite common that most hosts have this active as standard.
