re-arranging two footer widgets

I've added 2 footer widgets to my home page. They're stacked - one above, one below; is there a way to make them appear next to each other (ie - on the same "row" or "level")?

Hi there,

Both are currently added under footer widget 1. Try adding the second one under footer widget 2.

I moved one image to footer widget 2 and the image disappeared from the home page. I returned to the customize section and noted the verbage under "widgets" - it seems to explain that footer widget 2 won't work on the home page? If so, any other suggestions? (see image for the verbage)
