Question on Image Sizes

Hello team! I've just changed the theme on my (image heavy) 8 year old blog to Generate Press (as I'm creating a wesbite for a client using your theme and I really, really love it)!!
However, I've noticed that any new images I upload — all my images are a 1024px width — are showing as full width rather than thumbnail.
I haven't altered the image sizes in media settings.
Do I need to run 'regenerate thumbnails' on ALL of my images? Not just featured images?
Will this solve the problem?
My container width is set at 1025px — please could you advise? Am going round in circles trying to work it out!! :)

there should be no need to regenerate thumbnails, as GP doesn't register any new thumbnail sizes.
Try changing the Featured Images Attachment size in Customizer > Layout > Blog >>> Featured images, theres separate options for the Archives, Posts and Pages.
Hello — I don't think I'm explaining my myself very well — sorry!
it's not just the featured images that I have a problem with, it's the images in my posts.
When I open up a new post or page and add a content image — not a featured image — it brings it in as full size, rather than a thumbnail, as it did in the previous theme I was using.

Here is an example of a post created in the previous theme. The image is 1024 wide — but being brought in as a thumbnail; not full size.

I haven't changed any settings in media, they used to be — and still are — the same as in this pic.
GP doesn't interfere with the Editor or the Image Blocks behaviour. Thats 100% WP core functions.
By default when adding an Image Block to a page, its image size is set to Full. And currently WP provides no filter to change that.
When changing the Image Size, it will use whatever sizes you have in your media settings. Why your old Theme would set the Thumbnail to 1024px is beyond me, as that means all your small thumbnails would be very large files....
Thanks for explaining! I don't know either — but I know that my site has always been relatively fast for it's size; A on GT metrix, plus 98 on mobile, 99 on desktop on page speed insights.
So — just to be clear — if I continue to upload my save-for-web 1024px wide images and use them at full width in my posts, it shouldn't negatively affect my site speed?
I'm trying to get my mobile core web vitals to pass — currently got 238 urls that are failing. All good on desktop but showing as poor for mobile. Trying everything to make sure my speed is good and to try and work out what the issue is for the site to be failing CWV on mobile. It's giving me such a headache!! ;)

Can't really answer that without seeing the site.
You're best off uploading images that are no larger then the largest display requirement.
As a general rule, images in posts content that say have a sidebar or narrower content area, don't need much larger than 768px. But it will vary from site to site.
Thanks so much David. My single posts are full width — no sidebar. Everything else — apart from the homepage — has a sidebar.
