I followed the links you gave but page hero is not appearing. What am I missing? This are the settings:

Try adding some top and bottom padding the examples suggested.

Tried with top and bottom padding, still the cover photo is not appearing.

can you remove the background color that you have set and let me know.
Other things to confirm is that Hero has some content in the text editor and that display rules have been set.
Cool. It's working now. I left the content area blank, that's why page hero was not showing. It appeared after I put content in it.

Thats great - yes the content has to contain something for it to display.
If you just want the image then you can add a HTML comment which won't display eg.
<!-- image only -->
