Problem setting up front page and archives

Hi, I just purchased the generate press template premium, planning to get the lifetime plan but I have found it impossible to setup front page and archives like our former template where we could show different categories differently.
Another huge issue is our posts refused to end at excerpt, virtually all the posts are showing full instead of short.

In order to show different categories in GP, a plugin like WP Show Posts is needed. Then you can insert post lists to a static page which can be assigned as the front page.

Tried that, so far i have gotten it to work for the Desktop version, but I need the mobile version to show only recent posts, how do I achieve that?

So the mobile version would show recent posts from all categories (like the default template without WP Show Posts)?
