Poster image for self-hosted MP4 not showing up & have blank video poster screen

My self-hosted videos in my blog posts show as a blank screen before I hit the play button. There is no poster image. They play fine. This occurs no matter whether I insert a video in a post with WP Editor or Elementor.

In contrast, a sample Youtube video provided by or through Elementor does have the poster image when I insert it into a blog post.

I am using the latest versions of Wordpress, Generatepress theme, GeneratePress Premium, and Elementor Pro. I am not using a GeneratePress Premium release candidate (I tried it and found some errors on the blog pages so I rolled back to 1.6.2). The only other plugin is Code Snippets and I don't recall why I have that.

https://denverqdro.com. I will upload my substantive content as soon as I get everything figured out or worked around.

I also notice that my self-hosted MP4 videos do not have the poster image after I upload them to my media library. Instead, in my media library, an image with a video camera and the file name appears. What happened to the poster image? (Anyway, I don't care about how they look in the media library as long as the poster image appears in the blog post).

The blank poster screen on my self-hosted blog post videos is my biggest unresolved issue. (In contrast, standard JPG images upload to my media library and appear and work as they should). As a work around, I probably could insert an image overlay in place of the video poster image, but that will be a time consuming hassle to do. I will have about 20 videos on each of several Wordpress sites.

I also notice that the exerpt "read more" does not work when a blog post is loaded as "video" but it does work when the post is loaded as "standard". (I don't see any difference between the "video" and "standard" posts, thus I will continue to use "standard" for my video blog posts so that the blog post listings will be compact with the "read more" exerpt).

I am not a programmer and have not used Wordpress previously. After a lot of hours and thought, I pretty much have my forthcoming Wordpress site(s) figured out for my purposes, other than the two issues listed above. The missing video poster image is the biggest issue to be resolved. I will use GeneratePress for my other law office sites, too. I find that the Mobile responsive format is working well. Excellent work!

Thanks for your help.

Yesterday I deleted that Wordpress account and reinstalled Wordpress, GP, GP Premium, Elementor, and Elementor Pro. I eventually determined that it is Elementor which is adding some garbage to my video blog post which appears when the blogs are listed sequentially using the appropriate category.

Part of the issue may be the conflict when I attempt to go back and forth between WP Editor and Elementor. I have learned that I cannot go back and forth between the two editors on the same page or post.

GeneratePress Premium works perfectly for me, at least up through 1.6.2. I am not now using the 1.7 beta.

I appreciate the advice that I must use "standard" on my blog posts in order to get the "see more" exerpt.

My only other comment on GeneratePress Premium is that $39.95 is too low a price for that product.

Thank you.

That's great! Glad you're enjoying GPP :)

Yea, I think we're due for a small price increase soon.

Thank you!
