Nichel template > single product page > gallery stack on desktop view

I really like how the gallery displays on mobile view (single product page) with one large image and then small thumbnails underneath, however, that same gallery displays all the images as large stacked images... on desktop view. Is there a way to have any additional images on desktop view only show as small thumbnails under the large image on the single product pages?= just like they do on mobile view?
The multiple large images stacked seems very bulky and the visitor has to scroll all the way down to get to the rest of the product details.

Niche uses some custom Hook Elements and some CSS to create the stacked gallery display.
