Mobile menu on Sider import spacing not quite right

If you select a new image for the background and then publish. Can you see the new image in the customizer ?

Ah yes, now I do! And there's a remove button. I wonder what changed?

Something got messed up in the database and the customizer couldn't see it had content for that setting. Happens occasionally.
