Lightweight Grid Columns and Sections

First of all, GP is great - especially Sections! However I'm having problems with LGC and sections... I want to create 4 images side by side with accompanying text below. I created a table in TablePress and this looks fine on desktop but becomes very clunky giving a poor user experience on tablets and mobile devices.

Reading through the forums I came across the LGC plugin and had the idea to use this together with the Widgets Shortcodes plugin to put 4 widgets side by side in the section, making the layout more responsive. However, the widgets remain stacked on top of each other... Do you know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
