    Hi,

I use GeneratePress on one website and I’m thinking of switching to GeneratePress for my photo website too.

I’d like to know if I could create a menu like this one (with main menus and submenus always expanded) with GeneratePress without knowing how to code (or if you’d offer support to make it that way): https://www.mitjakobal.com

I see Sider template already has a left side menu, so I was thinking of starting with that template. Would that be best base/start? It looks like the menu would also always stay visible even when scrolling down which would be great too.

Another not really related question: I saw in one of the forum discussions that NextGen is creating lots of errors and that you don’t recommend it. It’s what I’m using at the moment but I’d be ok with switching to something better. I also have Envira Pro plugin – would that work better with GeneratePress? By chance, do you know which of the two plugins is better to keep good website loading speed with GeneratePress?

    Thank you.
    Kind regards,
    Barbara

    Hi there,

the Sider site uses the Site Header to create the fixed sidebar, which would make it difficult to create the page hero you have on your current site. If the page hero wasn’t required then it would be a good starting point.

Alternatively using the Sidebar Navigation would be the way to go. For either option we can help you with some CSS to keep the sub-menus open. Just let us know when you are ready to go and if you need help.

Envira gets my vote over NextGen, we see very few issues with that plugin.

    Hi David,

Thank you for the quick reply – even on a Sunday!

Can you please tell me what you mean with “page hero”? Were you looking at the top section of this site: https://www.mitjakobal.com (this is not my site btw, just an example site of which I like the menu concept), where it says “No place for a man” when you land on the homepage? In this case it’s not relevant – I don’t want to reproduce this, just the left side menu with expanded submenus.

So in this case it will be best to start with Sider?

    Thanks,
    Barbara

Yes, the ‘Page Hero’ is the a term for the big image with text overlay found at the top of the site.

In that case yes the Sider site is a great starting point. If you set it up with your menu set-up then we can give some CSS to make the sub menus remain open.
