Leave a Comment for Custom Post Type

Hi there,
Our current homepage is showing an excerpt of the latest posts and latest custom post types. Only the regular blog posts show the "Leave a comment" link and the comments counter below the post excerpt when a comment was added. The custom post types do not show the "Leave a comment" link or the comments counter. The same goes for archive pages of custom post types where the "Leave a comment" link does not show. Each custom post type has comments activated and the comments counter in the customizer is also active.
When I switch to the twenty-fifteen template, for example, it shows the leave a comment link and posts count for all (custom) post types.
Can you please help point me in the right direction to fix this?

Thanks so much for your quick response!
The hook solution works, thanks for pointing that out. My expectation was that all post types on the homepage will show the comment link out of the box, but this workaround and additional CSS works as well.
