Is disabling customizer CSS styles a good idea?

A similar question was asked and answered here. But I'm still not quite sure what would be best practice.
Usually, I prefer to use the child stylesheet over the customizer. Everything is in one place, it's easier to work with variables, and is less likely that a user will change anything.
Deactivating the inline styles would be easy. However, in the post Tom did not recommend this method.
What would be your advice? Thank you!
