Interesting Sidebar behaviour

If I have a sidebar enabled, but no widgets in the sidebar I get two "default" widgets:
- a search widget
- an archives widget
How can I control this functionality?
In environment, we've got a widget the uses the WidgetLogic plugin, so at various times there may or may not be widget to display in side bar.
I'd prefer that the theme would render like there is no sidebar at all if there are no widgets in it.
