images disappearing in wordpress page editor

Some of my images have disappeared within the wordpress editing page. Instead, in place of the image it says:
"This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is imagename.jpg"
I've tried adding in the alt text but the image still does not appear.
Not the end of the world - the image still views in the browser, but any idea why this might be happening?

that will be related to the WP editor not liking something about the filename - not seen that before - but it seems others have:

Try reuploading the image with a different filename.
If the issue persists try disabling any pluging that is optimizing images ( if you have one )
Thank you very much for looking into this for me. I do not use an image optimizer, but will try reloading with a different filename. Also there are some useful suggestions on the github page you sent. Best wishes to you.
