if modified header

Hello, I would like to use GP "elements" to insert "if modified since" for google-bots into the header. It seems I would have to use a custom hook, the template_redirect action hook. Do you have a suggestion for me, how to configure this "element"?
Yes, that's what I thought about. I don't want to treat you as my "developer" but allow one question: I would like to inform my google bot about changes / no changes on my website. Do you know (or someone in this forum), if this header (the "if modified header") is needed and supplied for the site, or is it supplied for each page and post.
The second question would then be: is the hook-element the right spot to place the "if modified" info?
