How to translate "Written by" and "Published on" ?

Hi,
I tried without success to translate "Written by" and "Published on" on my french website but without success.
Everything is set in French but I can't translate this ?
Any idea how to do it please ? Same to set the date format.

are you using a Block Element or other function for outputting the post meta ?

No, I just installed the demo content of the theme.
Here is the link in the private information area.
Ok so the new sites are using the GPP 2.0 - theme building using the Block Element.
Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Elements - the two you will need to edit are titled:
Post Archive Template
First Post Template
Edit them, and select the element you want to change - see this screenshot:
