Hi, new to all this so sorry if this seems really obvious.
I’ve added plenty of clickable links to my website and have them open in new windows, but now I want to use buttons to make things look a bit nicer. The problem is, whenever people click on the button, they are taken the other site and leave my site. Is there any way to make the button open the link in a new window, or does the button only work with internal navigation?
Thanks,
Joel
July 26, 2019 at 7:58 am #967939LeoStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
Does this help?
https://www.thesitewizard.com/html-tutorial/open-links-in-new-window-or-tab.shtmlLet me know π
July 28, 2019 at 5:50 pm #969615JoelThank you, that is useful for being able to do what I want to do, but also means that I need to carefully edit every link that I use for a button.
I’m using the Wordsmith theme at the moment and the buttons don’t give an option to open in a separate browser. Is there any way I can change the options on the buttons to make them do that?
Thanks π
July 28, 2019 at 7:01 pm #969651LeoStaffCustomer SupportAre you using Gutenberg editor?
If so the links have the option to open in a new tab:

July 29, 2019 at 8:26 am #970216LeoStaffCustomer SupportGutenberg isn’t a page builder. It’s the newest default editor from WordPress:
https://wordpress.org/gutenberg/GP (or any themes) don’t actually handle the editor as that’s all handled by WordPress itself.
July 29, 2019 at 6:52 pm #970627JoelYes, I’m using Gutenberg.
July 29, 2019 at 7:48 pm #970650LeoStaffCustomer SupportThen you should see this when you insert a link:
https://www.screencast.com/t/Fud33LWMihDrJuly 29, 2019 at 11:57 pm #970753JoelWhen I paste a link normally, I get that, but for the button that comes with the installed theme, there is no option to open in a new window.
I have the enter arrow on the right, the chain symbol on the left, and then text box above for the actual button, but there is no option to open in another window.
This is for the ‘button’ option in Gutenberg, not the ‘paragraph’ option.
Hope that all makes sense.
July 30, 2019 at 8:21 am #971188DavidStaffCustomer SupportHi there,
the gutenberg developers have added this to version 6.2 which should have been released yesterday – so i would expect it will be released sometime this week. You will need to install the Gutenberg editor:
https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/gutenberg/
And when the 6.2 update becomes available this option will be there.
July 30, 2019 at 8:58 pm #971741JoelI’ll wait and see if it changes after the update. Thanks π
July 31, 2019 at 6:52 am #972065DavidStaffCustomer SupportThe Plugin was updated today – the option for Link Settings is now in the Settings sidebar when selecting a button block.
