Hello, I’m trying to build a website and am starting with creating a page hero and merging it with my page header. I’ve literally spent hours trying to do this, following videos – your own and others – and it still doesn’t come out right. I have GeneratePress Premium as had heard it was easier to use than the free version, and the support is really good (hopefully!). I’m not a web designer and have no knowledge of coding, but I do know my way around WordPress from an editing point of view – or at least thought I did. This is the first website I’m trying to build and am really struggling. Please could you tell me how to do this (I’ve gone into elements and followed instructions but the picture never loads). Or could you please tell me if there are any templates I can use instead? I’d like a simple info website for my communications company, nothing fancy, but am really struggling.

I’ve tried building using the GeneratePress free theme, then upgraded to GeneratePress Premium as believed it would be simpler to use. I’ve also tried Elementor. Am I just out of my depth?

    Thanks, Lucy

    Hi Lucy,

Have you checked the examples here?
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/page-hero-examples/

Example #2 and #3 should be similar to what you are looking for.

The relevant settings are shown in the screenshots as well.

To add an image inside the page hero:
    – Make sure to select the custom image or featured image in the background image dropdown menu.
    – Add some content in the content box. If you don’t want any content, simply add <!--HTML Comment-->
    – Add some top and bottom padding – this setting controls the height of the page hero.

Let me know if this helps 🙂

    Hi Leo

Thanks for your reply. It’s helped a bit although I followed the instructions and it still hasn’t worked – see http://www.greenbirdcomms.co.uk/ (please ignore the watermark on the pic, I want to see what it looks like in place before buying the photo). For some reason when I got to the ‘site header’ tab in the element editor, it didn’t show all the options, for example ‘site logo’ and ‘mobile header logo. Maybe this is why it hasn’t worked?

I chose GeneratePress Premium as was given the impression I could build a website really easily, visually and without having to use html. I don’t mind if I can’t, as I can go for another theme, but am I missing something? I’d really like to use GeneratePress if I can but it’s very slow and painful going for me so far.

    Thanks, Lucy

The site logo and mobile header options would only show if you have a global one added in the customizer:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/adding-header-logo/
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/mobile-header/

The options in header element is used when you need a specific logo to go with that page hero.

Looks like you are getting there though.

Try increasing the top and bottom padding to like 200px so the picture shows up more.

It might make more sense if you replicate the exact settings in this example:
    https://docs.generatepress.com/article/page-hero-examples/#example-2
