Tom,
I really LOVE your page headers/page hero concept. I have built other sites using page heros and transparent headers. I wish I could do it with this site, but I guess the image that I wan’t at the top of each page doesn’t have an aspect ratio that works for this purpose, it is like 1200×252. Because of that, I am trying to find different ideas for Starter Sites that would work with this “header” image.

StaffCustomer SupportThe majority of the sites are built with the Block editor and the GenerateBlocks plugin. That of course can be disabled on any site but you would have to reconstruct any layouts that are block based.
Are you trying to match the Squarespace example you provided ?

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I was trying to match that squarespace layout, having that 4 image strip at the top. But as you pointed out, it seems the aspect ratio of the strip wouldn’t work as a page hero. So I thought maybe I have to resort to using one of the starter sites that does not have a transparent header, and just use the image as content in the page hero.

StaffCustomer SupportDid you try the method here ?
https://generatepress.com/forums/topic/home-page-hero-not-showing-completely/#post-1713286
OR you can use a Block Element to create it

On my site at AfterProhibition.michianait.net, I used Tom’s suggestion for placing an image with a large aspect ratio in the “header”. It seems to load another image first, then eventually loads the correct one. Then, it places an icon (or small image) alt=”the alt text for your image” right in the middle of the correct header image.
1. Can you tell me why it is loading a different image first, then the correct one?
and
2. Why I am getting that “alt” message in the middle of the image, and how I get rid of it?
Thanks,
Mark

David,
I guess I spoke too soon. The following is an issue I have never seen before.
When I login as an administrator to AfterProhibition.michianait.net, and “visit” the site, it looks fine.
However, when I just open a browser (and I have cleared the cache) [either Safari or Chrome] and browse to AfterProhibition.michianait.net, it looks all messed up. I don’t know what is happening.
I have included admin credentials below, if you can have a look.
THanks,
Mark

StaffCustomer SupportJust checked the site and its says the Astra theme is installed ? Can you check that the GP Theme is active ?

I also just checked AfterProhibition.michianait.net and it says GeneratePress is the active theme, and gp premium is installed.
I don’t know why yours is showing “Astra.”

David,
I *think* I fixed it. There is a plugin called “Lightspeed Cache” that I deactivated, and then re-activated, and now the published site displays accurately. I have used RochenHost
(rochen.com) [which uses a server version of Lightspeed Cache] as my server for 13 years, and have NEVER seen this issue. Weird?Mark

StaffCustomer Supportvery weird – sounds like it dug up some old page caching. Glad to hear you found the issue!
