Hide upper level submenus on mobile

Hi GeneratePress team,
Quick question, which I think I already know the answer to.
A client we're working with wants to streamline the mobile nav experience. They have 3 levels of navigation (main and 2 submenu levels) and would like when you open the 3rd level for the 2nd level to be hidden, and there to be a 'back' button within the 3rd level menu items to get back to the 2nd level menu items.
Hope that makes sense.
I said I didn't think this is possible without going into custom theme builds.
Let me know your thoughts.

yeah - that sounds complicated :)
Something similar: One of our support users did bring this to our attention, as a feature for the Off Canvas Panel:

have yet to drill into it - but it might give you a starting point for custom development.
