Header Size and Top Bar

Help with two issues, please. There is a lot of white space below my header. Is there a way to make the header narrower?
Whoops. I didn't mean to post that yet. Second problem is I'm trying to add contact info and social media icons to the top bar. I installed Better Font Awesome and put in the icon code but just getting little boxes.
