GP Theme with Premium Plugin: Activate Theme ?

Hello, I had some issues with my site and needed to rebuild and reinstall everything. I came back to GP to get my license key....

To make a long story short, my question is regarding whether the theme file should remain inactive, while the premium plugin is activated. I definitely remember one of my wordpress addons having this requirement and couldn't remember if it was GeneratePress. I know for sure that I bought something where the premium version sat on top active of the deactivated free version...was that generatepress ? Or Elementor Pro on top of Elementor ?
