GP Hooks - make spaces

How do I make spaces within GP Hooks? just shows up as and if I just type three spaces they only appear as one.

I'd like to put three spaces before and after each | in Above Header

I must have typed the code for spaces wrong because when I tried it again it worked. Sorry to have bothered you with it.
