Ian
So a new site is looking to run some Google fonts. I have read through the KBs for Google Fonts but was not able to find the answer. I noticed there is a way to use Customizer > Typography > Add Font. After we do that, I assumed that it would be available in the drop down of the GB Headline block so we can choose that exact font. I may be missing something but it seems we must type it in to select the font correct?
1. So the odd thing is, when typing in, I think I see the change in the final output but I do not see the font being called inside Google Chrome dev tools.
2. When using Add Typography to target a specific class, I indeed see the font being loaded inside dev tools.
So…
What is the best way to load Google fonts now with the new typography manager? This is in respect to Pagespeed. I know there is a manual way to use GP to load them locally but I am trying to do this without having to install the font manually. So as long as I can get GP to call them first, I will use a plugin to optimize their loading. Any tips?

Hi Ian,
Yes, that’s correct. The GeneratePress Typography Module is separate from the GenerateBlocks Typography settings. It’s normal that when you add a Font Family in the Customizer, it wouldn’t appear in the GB Typography settings.
Either way should be okay, but personally, I find GeneratePress’ Typography module to be more manageable. Specifically, you can target multiple elements from here, and change them anytime easily if needed as opposed to the GB Typography settings wherein you need to change them one by one. This depends on your preference though.
1. This is odd. When you enable “Use Google Fonts API” and specify a specific Google font, it should be requested. Example: https://share.getcloudapp.com/7KujerQ6

Wait a minute. I think I just got a better understanding of the system.
To use a Google font in GB’s headline block, we don’t even need to go to GP’s Customizer Typography to add it. We just use GB + Google API and type in the external font? Always learning something new in here, thanks! lol
